4 Reasons Doordash Searching for a Dasher is Taking Long and Fixes

Maybe it’s your first time making an order on Doordash, and you’re welcomed with the problem of the app taking forever to find a dasher, it can be frustrating – we know.

However, it’s kind of common, especially among new users, not familiar with the app.

Either way, if you want to know why you keep getting this problem, stick around.

Reasons Doordash Searching for a Dasher is taking long

1. Poor Tip

We like to put this on the top of our list because it’s the reason, 90% of the time, people find themselves having a hard time getting their orders accepted.

In fact, the primary reason.

While Tips on Doordash, as well as other food delivery companies, are being advertised as optional, they typically are not.

Don’t get me wrong, yes, you can make orders on Doordash without tips or little tips, but it’s not advisable.

For one reason, it would be difficult to get your order accepted by a driver, since they’re keen to supplement their poor income with tips they get from customers– the reason why Tipping is a big deal for them.

In essence, it’s very unlikely to get your order accepted without a tip.

Secondly, it’s a sign of a gesture for a service. Driving for food delivery is not the best job. Tipping before delivery would go a long way.

Fixes:

Well, it’s simple…

If you didn’t tip previously, you may want to cancel the current order, while making another one with Tip. You can read our article about tipping $4 as a minimum, for how you can tip properly.

2. The restaurants

Depending on where you stay, this could be a big factor as well.

For instance, I’ve seen a couple of drivers that hate delivering Mc Donalds, for some reasons like:

  1. It takes too much time due to the crowd
  2. The pay is always not justifiable

Taco Bell and Chick-fil-A are also other restaurants with similar complaints from dashers.

Editors note: This doesn’t mean Doordash drivers don’t accept orders from Taco Bell, Mc Donalds, Chick-fil-A, etc. Drivers still do, and some don’t.

This shouldn’t also be a problem if you stay in a location with a good driver density (where drivers are plenty).

However, in a location where there are only a few drivers and none of them delivers to the restaurants of your choice, then you’re likely to be faced with the issue of Doordash taking longer to search for a driver.

Fixes:

Firstly, there’s no exact way you can tell whether this could be the problem you’re facing. However, it’s always best to make sure your tips are right and redo the order later. Better, during peak times.

3. Time of the day

As with every business, there is always a peak and non-peak time for food delivery companies.

For Doordash, this is around 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM (lunchtime) and 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM (dinner). Basically, it’s between the peak afternoon and evening time of the day.

Doordash makes its highest sales during this time. And as a result, drivers are busiest. This also means there would be a lack of drivers, and hence delay, such as a longer time in searching for drivers, for customers.

This is also the reason Doordash charges a higher delivery fee during these times.

Fixes:

To avoid issues like these, it’s always best to consider ordering before the peak time for any day.

4. Technical Issues

The next we have on our list are technical issues.

And yes, Doordash is not above one. In fact, we’ve seen several cases of Doordash facing technical issues. This is the reason the company has a dedicated page for troubleshooting their mobile app.

If you know you tipped right, are in a good location, and not ordering in one of the restaurants listed above, the reason the app takes longer to find a driver could be that you’re facing a technical issue.

Fixes:

You want to begin by clearing the cache of the device you use in making Doordash orders. This can be done by navigating to the settings of your phone>apps>doordash app>storage and tapping on the clear cache.

To get back to the app after doing this, you’ll need to log in to your account.

Editors note: If you find it hard doing this, you can also delete the app and re-install it back.

Next, restart your phone and make sure it has a stable connection. If not, connect it to one.

If it still doesn’t work, give Doordash time and maybe try out other alternatives like Uber Eats, Grubhub, etc.

Conclusion

So there you have it. There are a couple of reasons why Doordash may keep Searching for a Dasher for you. However, the most occurring reason is due to a poor tip.
